One Act Play Festival

Stage Left Theatre Company holds an annual one-act playwriting competition. The One-Act plays will be judged by a panel of theatre veterans. Up to six (6) plays will be chosen for the staged readings in May. From these, three will be chosen for full production in October.

1. All people living or attending school in Colorado are eligible for this contest.

2. Plays should be 25 to 35 minutes in length. Twenty-two (22) to thirty (30) pages when typed in proper play format equals twenty-five (25) to thirty-five (35) minutes of playing time. This form may be found at: http://www.vcu.edu/artweb/playwriting/format.html

3. Due to stage limitations, small casts and simple sets are preferred. The theatre has no fly capabilities, no front curtain and limited lighting capabilities.

4. A playwright may submit as many plays as she/he wishes.

5. For each play please submit three (3) copies of the manuscript with NO author identification.

6. For each play please submit one cover page with complete author identification: Name, address with zip code, phone number with area code, e-mail, fax and the first dialog line of the play.

7. The play/s must be the original work of the author, must not have been produced (Staged readings are OK), and must not have been published. A play once submitted may not be changed until selection is completed.

8. Each play must be accompanied by a $5.00 submission fee. Please make checks or money orders payable to STAGE LEFT THEATRE CO.

10. Submission deadline: To be announced for 2006

All playwrights whose plays are chosen for staged readings or production will be invited to Salida to view their play and to participate in the staged reading workshop and discussion and to view the final production.
